Saves of the Steam version of the game - 23 saves. The last save is on the final boss. Playing as a warrior/mage - summoner. Most of the map is cleared, the entire story and many side quests are completed. Hired 5 partners and completed their quests. Relationships as well as other character stats can be seen in the screenshots. Enjoy the game.
Tips for the game:
Once you get the bandits to attack the guards, join the battle and you will get a quick spike in experience and loot.
Also don't forget about the ancient tomb west of Brea. You can periodically jump in there, kill the first few rats and bats, and come back every few days after the monsters respawn for more experience/loot. Just be careful and don't go too far until you are ready. The skeletons and the giant bat boss can be challenging if you are not prepared for them.
If you do this long enough, around level 5 (I think), you'll get a cutscene on the world map where Phoebe joins your party. Phoebe is awesome. The only mage you'll get unless you choose the "Evil Path" later in the game.
In fact, for this reason alone, I'd recommend restarting the game and choosing the mage path for yourself. I'm pretty far along now, and Phoebe/Fiorella are the only two spellcasters I can recruit. And you can't keep Fiorella unless you betray Martina and her father. And even then, you'll have to overcome even more obstacles before Fiorella becomes a permanent part of the party.
If you start as a mage again, you'll still be able to level up as a fighter fairly easily, but being able to dive into magic spells as you level up is a huge game-changer. Lightning is the best starting item if you want more of a "warrior mage." She has a good melee attack, and once you level her up a bit, she has an AMAZING dash attack that does good damage and debuffs your enemy. Light spells also have good heals and buffs.
Phoebe starts with light and fire spells, so she can be great as a healer or a ranged attacker.
The downside to starting as a mage is that you'll have crappy starting gear, so you'll REALLY need to rely on that trick I mentioned of trying to lure bandits and guards into fighting each other on the world map so you can loot the remains.
Don't even bother with the C/B/A rank mercenary missions yet, because you won't be able to do them until you reach Stirrup, and you're not strong enough to survive the trip to Stirrup until you have at least a 3-man team. And even then, you might want to wait for Phoebe.
That said, if you're feeling brave, you can try heading northeast from Brea until you reach Abandoned Farm. All the way to the eastern edge of the Abandoned Farm map, you can recruit Soltan. A Brutwoman warrior who joins your party for free, but you'll have to complete her quest nearby or she'll leave you. Her quest will involve a series of fights with Orcs/Brutwomen. They'll be a bit tougher than the bandits, so if you're still fighting bandits, you might not be up for it. But you can talk your way out of the boss fight at the end and keep Soltan anyway. And as an added bonus, the much later boss fight you'll face on the Ophidian Mountain map will be much easier if you choose the peaceful solution to Soltan's quest.
Before I started using cheats to get around the early grind, I would usually stay solo and lure guards/bandits into battle, occasionally dropping into the ancient tomb for extra kills and experience until I was level enough to get Phoebe's intro scene (while doing unranked mercenary missions for extra cash as needed). Once I was strong enough, I would go after Soltan and complete her quest. Once that was done, your main party for the rest of the game would be complete, so head back to Brea and talk to Harold to get Martina to join.
You can do a LOT of content with just you, Soltan, Phoebe, and Martina before you even bother to progress Harold/Tulio's quest to the point where you have to choose who you're on.
I decided to stick with Harold/Martina, which caused Tulio/Fiorella to disappear from the game after the big fight. They're still alive, so maybe there'll be another chance to recruit Fiorella later, but honestly, Soltan and Martina are already great frontline fighters. With Phoebe healing and providing ranged support, plus me in the mix as a Warrior Mage, you won't have much of a need for more recruits unless you REALLY want to be able to fine-tune your team builds, or the fight will go so badly that
then someone will die or get hurt more than you can afford to heal right now.
Here's another thing to keep an eye out for. One of the best early game gear sets you can get drops from a very tough but rewarding boss fight in the graveyard tomb under Stirrup. A full set of heavy artifact armor and a powerful artifact greatsword.
And a few more tips: there's a training ground near the northern entrance/exit of Brea. The trainers there can teach you any of the basic starting classes for 1 silver each, and you can "fight" the training dummies to level up your weapon skills for free, so be sure to practice that a bit too.
Once you decide to side with Tulio or Harold, you STILL lose access to Martina and Fiorella for a while. So you might want a mercenary to level up along the way OR train with Martina for a while until you're strong enough to head to the mountain range far to the east of Brea. There's a castle there where you can do more quests and recruit a new NPC companion, Alia. There are actually two castles. You want the one further east, past the Blackthorn Arena. NOT the one on the mini-island. Alia isn't as strong as Martina, but she's available after you finish her quest, and makes a good replacement for Martina as a rogue/ranger/sniper once you reach the part of the questline that pushes Martina out of your party for a while. You and Soltan will have to do the fighting on the front lines until you've progressed far enough in the main quest to get Martina (or Fiorella, if you went the slaver route) back. Also in this castle you will get a quest that will allow you to eventually unlock the Warrior Monk class, which is AMAZING if you are into the Warrior Mage fighting style. The Warrior Monk passive adds melee damage and melee attack speed based on your Intelligence and Willpower stats. And the Monk skills themselves are pretty strong too. But it is quite a journey through the mountains and to the far edge of the swamps to get to the Temple. Lots of tough fights along the way if you don't go there at a high enough level. Make sure to side with the Monks if you want to get the Warrior Monk skills. You can side with someone else in the Temple quest and they will unlock a unique class that is good for people who specialize in one-handed swords, but the Warrior Monk/Unarmed skill tree is much better and can be unlocked for your entire party, whereas the other class can only be unlocked for one character.
If you start to feel like you have too much estrogen in your crew, there is a human companion you can recruit on Pirate Island, but by the time you're strong enough to get to him, you probably won't need him. lol These are the only free companions I've found so far.
