Oasis Mastery & Hunting Strategy
Unlike most survival games, Starsand features a "Water Truce" at the oasis. Predators and prey gather together to drink in peace. Don't waste energy chasing shadows in the open desert—set up near a water source and let the leather and meat come to you.
Survival & Crafting Pro-Tips
- Flaming Arrows: Equip your bow and touch an arrow to a lit wall torch or fireplace (without aiming). This grants you portable light and extra damage.
- The Architect’s Tool: Craft a Hammer to access the building menu (Right-Click). Use the Arrow Keys while placing foundations or furniture to achieve pixel-perfect rotation.
- Sustainable Farming: Never chop down a fruit tree if you only need food. Fruits regrow much faster than the tree itself.
- Camel Taming: To gain a "curvy horse" companion, feed it fruit twice (press R near its mouth). Note: Coconuts must be sliced open before a camel will eat them.
- The Coconut Meta: Coconuts are your most versatile resource. They stack up to 20. Strip the husk to drink, then smash the shell to eat the meat.
- Deadly Thrown Spears: You can stack 5 spears in one slot. They deal significantly more damage than arrows when thrown (Hold Right-Click to aim, Left-Click to throw).
- Blueprint Hunting: Search Ruins for hidden scrolls. Some advanced structures, like the Furnace, are unlocked by "Inspecting" them in the world rather than just finding a scroll.
Bonus Tips (What the Guide Didn't Tell You)
- Beat the Heat: Always travel at night or in the early morning if possible. If you must travel during the day, seek shade under rock formations or trees to lower your temperature.
- Clay is Gold: Clay nodes are often found near dried-up lake beds or the edges of the map. You’ll need plenty of it for high-tier crafting, so mark these locations on your mental map.
- Watch the Skies: Sandstorms are lethal. If the sky turns orange and the wind picks up, stop what you are doing immediately and build a basic shelter or find a cave.
- Sulfur for Defense: Collect sulfur nodes early. They are essential for crafting explosives and advanced ammunition, which you’ll need when the "unwanted pests" get bigger.
Key Ruin Locations & Blueprints
Searching for scrolls and blueprints is essential for progression. Here are the most valuable spots on the map:
- Canapa Temple (Far North-West):
- Blueprints: Blue, Red, and Green powders.
- Nearby Mountainside House: Metal Axe, Bullseye (Target), and Armor Stand.
- The Northeast Ruined Village:
- Blueprints: Metal Spear, Metal Pickaxe, Double Bed, and Chimney.
- The Sword: Found on the second floor of the large building overlooking the town ruins.
- The Pyramid:
- Blueprints: Gunpowder, Coconut Grenade, and Explosive Barrel. (Requires building a walkway over the spike trap with 6 Metal Ingots and 10 Wood Planks).
- Sandscrew & Terrarium: Inspect the beetle-engraved stele at the entrance.
- Ruin #4 (East of the Western Oasis):
- Blueprints: Furnace, Mortar, and Standing Torch.
Bonus: Advanced Tips for Pros
- Temperature Control: Travel during the night to avoid heat stroke. During the day, always keep an eye on your temperature meter and hide in the shade of rocks or ruins if it gets too high.
- The Ore Analyzer: To process "Common Ore Chunks" into useful metals like Copper, you must reach the Junior Crafter level to unlock the Ore Analyzer blueprint.
- Sulfur Farming: The northernmost oasis is the primary source of sulfur. You'll need this for gunpowder and explosives to clear blocked paths in ruins.
- Inventory Tip: Coconuts are your best friend—they stack to 20 and provide both food and water. Husk them with an axe or knife to drink, then break them again to eat the meat.
